The shooting occurred at approximately 1:28 a.m. at the 3300 block of Boisseau Street, outside VSU residence halls. Of the five wounded, one was in critical condition. Only one of the five victims is a university student, per Fox News reporting.
Police located Harris hiding in a closet inside one of the campus dorm buildings hours after the shooting. Police obtained felony warrants for four counts of malicious wounding and four counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Authorities stated Harris may face more charges. He is being held without bail at Chesterfield County Jail.
The university implemented a lockdown following the incident, which has since been lifted. VSU announced that "VSU police will maintain an increased presence on campus as the investigation continues." Virginia State University is a state-supported historically Black university located in Ettrick, Virginia, about 25 miles south of Richmond.
