Coast Guard aircraft carrying DHS Secretary Mullin loses engine, lands safely at Reagan National

A Coast Guard plane carrying Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin made an emergency landing at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport on Wednesday afternoon after losing its right engine, according to NBC News and ABC News. All 14 people aboard, including the secretary, were unharmed. The pilot declared an emergency around 1:35 p.m. ET, stating "we just lost our right engine and would like to declare an emergency and an immediate landing at DCA," according to NBC News. The pilot reported 14 people on board and approximately 2.5 hours of fuel remaining. The aircraft, a 25-year-old twin-engine plane, landed safely and was thoroughly checked by Airports Authority Fire and Rescue personnel before proceeding off the runway with no disruption to other flights, according to the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, per NBC News. No injuries were reported. Multin posted on X following the landing: "The United States Coast Guard pilots made the single engine landing feel routine. No panic, just straight professionalism. After we landed, the pilots told me that was a first for them! We could not have been in better hands."
