British commentator Milo Yiannopoulos deported for overstaying US visa

Milo Yiannopoulos, a British national and right-wing commentator, was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement on August 27, 2026, at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport and deported on August 29, 2026, for violating US immigration law. The Department of Homeland Security said Yiannopoulos "chose to overstay his welcome in violation of our nation's laws" after he was "issued a final order of removal after failing to show up for his immigration hearing," according to reporting from Reason dated August 28. Yiannopoulos entered the country legally on May 14, 2019, through New York City. A DHS spokesperson said, per BBC World, that Yiannopoulos, "an illegal alien from the United Kingdom," had been sent "back to his home country." The Telegraph, as reported by Reason, stated that his "visa status is understood to have been brought to attention after he fell out of favour with senior officials over his increasingly hostile remarks." Yiannopoulos, 41, is a former editor of Breitbart News who served as a political aide to rapper Kanye West during the rapper's 2020 unsuccessful presidential bid and later worked for Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene. He was an early Trump supporter, headlining a "Gays for Trump" event during the 2016 Republican National Convention. In 2020, he assisted West's campaign. He later became a critic of Trump, writing on X in March 2026 that Trump had "lost his way, bought off by foreign interests," according to BBC World. Yiannopoulos has been a prominent advocate for aggressive immigration enforcement. BBC World reports he wrote in 2025: "We have got to deport millions and millions of people. Without that, nothing else matters." He advocated on social media for "on the spot deportation for anyone who can't prove they are in the US legally" and has called for ICE raids and "total legal immunity for ICE agents when they're on duty," per BBC World. In 2017, Yiannopoulos was disinvited from speaking at CPAC after footage emerged of him appearing to condone paedophilia. He later apologised and resigned from Breitbart. Yiannopoulos has said he was speaking about his own experiences as a child and has stated he does not consider himself part of the alt-right, though he has called it "energising and exciting," per BBC World.
